2 To Run For Open State Senate Seat

Amy Roe

ROCHESTER – Amy A. Roe, who was born and raised in Fulton County, has decided to participate in the Sept. 9 caucus as a candidate for the open seat vacated by Senator Randy Head.

Roe ran for an at-large seat on Rochester City Council during this past primary. Although she was unable to unseat the incumbents, she is not discouraged in entering the field of candidates for Head’s seat, according to a news release from her campaign.

“I was born for public service,” Roe said, adding her recent participation at “Campaign Institute,” hosted by Advancing Voices of Women, reaffirmed this belief. “I have determined no one will actually fill Senator Head’s shoes. I have the utmost respect for him; he is passionate, talented, and every time he gets up to speak you can tell that it comes from the depths of his soul. Whoever is chosen will never truly be able to fill his shoes, but somebody has to carry on his legacy. I feel that I have the strategic mindset, regional connections and passion to give it my best shot.”

Roe said she has been blessed with exposure to each county in her district either professionally, personally, educationally or civically. This experience and connections in each county will assist her in doing the job effectively.

The news release states that Roe’s “professional and educational experiences have produced impressive results due to her incredible skill level at team building, organizational leadership, policy writing, program development, communication facilitating and the ability to work with tough issues and individuals of all walks of life.”

Conversations that Roe has had the opportunity to facilitate include:

• Transforming workforce development which resulted in the creation of legislation during her time in South Carolina.

• Improving public education as the executive director of Fulton County Chamber of Commerce.

• Creating programs to help with substance use disorders and mental health as the president of Futon County HOPE.

These issues will be top priority for Roe if she obtains the Senate Seat.
